Hi! My name is Kimberly and I’m in my 2nd year of the East Kootenay Teacher Education Program through the University of Victoria. I have been challenged to “learn about something that [I am] passionate or curious about” and document it on this blog. I have never used a blog before, so this will be a bit of a learning curve, so please bare with me but I am so excited about my inquiry project which I’ve title “Krazy About the Kootenays!” I have spent 34 of my 36 years living in the Kootenays and I absolutely love it here. I am now excited to be given the opportunity to share my passion with children – to help them feel connected to this place we call home. My goal is to explore different places throughout the Kootenays (some in person, and others virtually) that I could one day take my students to. I love the quote by Benjamin Franklin that says, “Tell me and I forget. Teach me and I remember. Involve me and I learn.” My hope is that I will be able to find locations that students can become involved with, places that they can connect with, so that they may learn. The Kootenays are filled with so much culture and history and I want to introduce my students to it. I love the Kootenays, I love teaching, and I love kids. Hopefully, that will show as I document my little inquiry into the Kootenays. I’m still creating a list of locations and playing around with some ideas on how to tie each location into the curriculum but I hope you’ll join me in this little adventure. Who knows, maybe you’ll fall in love with the Kootenays as well?!
